Brief History

On 2nd August 1886, an institution devoted to animal welfare was established in Parel village of Mumbai. “Bombay Veterinary College” our Alma mater and affectionately called as BVC.

The ALUMNI of BVC are delivering their duties in various fields at national and international level.

Bombay Veterinary College Alumni Association (BVCAA) was established by the proud alumni of BVC in the year 1886-87.

There are nearly 1000 active life members registered with the association and Association is organizing various activities like scientific orations, entrepreneurship programs, carrier guidance, and outreach programs to help farmers during draught etc since last many years

OBJECTIVES

OBJECTIVES  OF  THE  BOMBAY  VETERINARY  COLLEGE  ALUMNI  ASSOCIATION

1987:

  • Construction of  Scientists  Home-A Lodging facility for visiting Alumni for which  Bombay  Veterinary  College  Centenary  Celebration Committee had given    1,00,000/-
  • Starting a technical periodical (for which the  BVC  Centenary  Celebration Committee has given    42,600/-).  This activity would include the annual publication of the Journal of Bombay  Veterinary  College  Alumni Association and if possible a bulletin the "Vetline".
  • Organizing orations: a  sustained  activity
  1. The noted  scientist,  industrialist  and  well-wisher    K.  H.  Gharda,  had  donated  and  initiated  the  "Gharda  Oration  Series."
  2. Well-wishers  of    S.  R.  Rao  have  donated  and  initiated  the  "Dr Rao  Memorial  Oration  Series."
  • Enrolment of life
  • Raising funds for widening the sphere of welfare activities,  such as research fund/  workshop Training courses etc. for the public awareness in general of the  Veterinary Profession etc.

 

1987 - 2003:

  1. To create  and  perpetuate  a  sense  of  love  and  devotion  for  the  Alma  Mater,  by the enrolment  of  members  of  various  categories  and  to  encourage  them  to  donate  towards  various  activities
  2. To help  to  maintain  a  very  high  professional  standard  amongst  the  graduates  of  the  college  by  disseminating  to  them  information  regarding  the  latest  developments  in  the  field  of  Veterinary  Science  and  Animal  Husbandry  through  the  establishment  of  information  services,  such  as  a  Journal  /  Veterinary  Bulletin
  3. To promote  educational,  research  and  extension  activities  in  the  members  of  the  Association,  by  encouraging  various  departments  in  the  college  to  conduct  training  courses,  workshops
  4. To help  in  establishing  the  co-operation/laison  between  our  college  and  public  /  Government  departments  /  Industries,  Agricultural  and  Veterinary  universities  and  other  institutes  for  mutual  benefits  in  the  field  of    To  operate  a  placement  service  for  the  benefit  of  our  students.
  5. To make  suggestions  to  modify  the  existing  academic  curricula,  whenever  need  is  felt  for  the
  6. To appreciate  and encourage outstanding students, alumni and workers  in Veterinary profession, by felicitating them and calling upon  them to present Orations,  .
  7. To gear  all  the  necessary  efforts  which  will  help  to  create  a  sense  of  comradeship  and  brotherhood  amongst  fellow  members  and  other  veterinarians
